On 11th August, 2020, Russia’s health ministry has given regulatory approval for what it claims is the world’s first Covid-19 vaccine, developed by Moscow’s Gamaleya Institute, after less than two months of human testing, President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday, reported Reuters.
As per Reuters, President Putin emphasized that the “vaccine underwent the necessary tests, adding that one of his two daughters has received a shot of the vaccine and is feeling well ” .
This will be first vaccine available for COVID-19 globally and if it succeeds, Russia will win the race for an effective product for this pandemic disease. However, before it will be available globally, it should be tested rigorously as it will be matter of national prestige before the world and to the scientific community. This will make Russia’s healthcare unit more effective than others.
At present till 11th August, more than 20M confirmed cases worldwide and more than 12 million are successfully recovered from it. The most effected countries due to this COVID-19 are USA, Brazil, India and Russia.
It should also be noted that the World Health Organization has already sternly advised the Russian authorities to proceed as per the already established guidelines to produce a safe and effective coronavirus vaccine.
Companies including AstraZeneca Plc and Moderna Inc. are still conducting final-stage trials of their vaccines in studies that are expected to soon yield results.
